Interventions

Our interventions cut across social welfare; peace mediation; security enlightenment and training; health promotion and awareness creation aimed at enhancing access to healthcare services in local and rural communities across Nigeria. Through partnership and social mobilisation of financial and human resources and engagement of relevant stakeholders using a community-based approach, PFHF collaborates with Government ministries to achieve its goals, including the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development and the Federal Ministry of Health. We also provide capacity building on security relations to agencies such as the Nigeria Customs Service and the Nigeria Immigration Service.

  1. Mobilise government and non-government stakeholders from the South‑South geopolitical region to strengthen commitment to Universal Health Coverage and health security in the 21st century and beyond.
  2. Strengthen harmonisation of the initiative for the attainment of Universal Health Coverage with South‑specific approaches.
  3. Share lessons learned among states on successful approaches to financial risk protection, equitable quality healthcare service delivery, and health security.
  4. Strengthen political will to improve the social determinants of health in the South‑South geopolitical region.
  5. Increase the involvement of traditional authorities in regional health systems using an evidence‑based approach.
  6. Develop sustainable and accountable mechanisms for revenue generation for healthcare financing in the South‑South zone through government and non‑government stakeholder involvement to prevent catastrophic health expenditure.
  7. Design innovative responses to public health challenges arising from oil and gas exploration and gas flaring in the South‑South region.
  8. Organise inclusive local and international discussions on reducing health risks associated with oil and gas production (for example, water contamination and reproductive health impacts) and promote preventive interventions.

The summit is designed to bring together South‑South state governors, major stakeholders and friends of the region for an all‑inclusive interactive forum on Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
